Even the work participation rate in India indicates the necessity of proper planning of skill training and employment opportunity. Most interestingly, the existing general and conventional higher educational institutions have not effectively been able to cope with the contemporary challenges and changes with the result that the nature of curriculum which is by and large in place tends to create only degree inflation in our country. So, we need such institutes and institutional arrangement that can cater to the contemporary challenges so as to upgrade the quality of education as well as to provide need based educational programmes that can develop human power in the society. A state in southern India called Telangana has a rich and varied cultural history. There are numerous tribes in the area, and they have long coexisted peacefully with the environment. These tribes have distinctive traditions that have been handed down through the generations. The Gond, Koya, Lambada, and Banjara are notable tribes in Telangana. Over the years, these tribes have encountered several difficulties, such as land acquisition, displacement, and a loss of cultural identity. However, via several government initiatives and community-based programs, efforts are being undertaken to maintain their culture and give them more authority. Tribal Development has been in the agenda for discussion at several levels in different forums for quite some time and continues to be an important aspect for serious deliberation in Telangana, not only because of a significant portion of the tribal population but more importantly because of the inequality of their participation, both socially and economically. The conventional wisdom that the tribal population should not be integrated with the mainline population, does not cut ice any longer as tribals themselves are eager to participate in national development and construction. A major initiative to empower the tribals, in my view is through the provision of appropriate educational opportunities to the children of the tribal families, though the aspects like infrastructural and health are identified as critical inputs. The present book tries to disclose the situation of the Scheduled Tribes in Telangana State. Evaluation of student’s perception and attitudes towards switching from in-class to online teaching in the era of covid-19

Worldwide, the focus on online learning during the era of the COVID-19 pandemic faced many challenges. The present study aimed to evaluate the preferences, perceptions, and attitudes of university students toward various strategies of learning. A pre-piloted cross-sectional survey was posted on the internet in Arabic and English language. Questions covered the demographical characteristics of the participants and their preferences and perceptions of various learning strategies. We received 270 questionnaires from various countries. The majority (n=199, 73.7%) of respondents were from the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, with n=125 (46.3%) participants from the College of Pharmacy. The majority (n=198, 73.0%) of respondents were females, Arabs (n=262, 97.0%), living with their families (n=208, 77.0%), and with only the father working (n=174, 64.0%). Preference was, for online learning (n=145, 53.7%) as compared to in-class learning (n=119, 44.1%). More students (n=110, 40.7%) claimed improvement in their grades with online learning but 62 of students (23.0%) stated that their grades were worsened. Student’s performance in online exams was similar to that in paper exams. The majority (n=168, 62.2%) of students claimed that their overall expectations of online learning were not the same as those for in-class learning. 50.0%-60.0% of respondents believed that in-class learning allows them to learn more effectively, and achieve the best work preparation, best exam performance, and best education value, and they were more likely to recommend it. Despite the disadvantages of online learning, it remains the future strategy for higher education. Appropriate planning of courses, and helping students by reducing digital inequity, if any, would certainly prove satisfactory for the millennial generation of students

Psychometric factors and undergraduate students’ attitudes towards research: evidence from vietnam

Scientific research is an extremely important element in higher education. Nearly all undergraduate students at the university are required to take research courses in the formation process. Therefore, the current paper aims to explore Vietnamese undergraduate students’ attitudes towards research. To measure attitudes towards research, the study used Papanastasiou’s Revised Attitude Towards Research (R-ATR) scale (2014). This psychometric proprieties scale consisted of 13 items with three factors: research usefulness (4 items), research anxiety (5 items), and positive research predispositions (4 items). Data were collected by a questionnaire survey on a convenient sample of 520 undergraduate students from six universities in Vietnam. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The findings indicated that the students’ attitudes were high in the factor of research usefulness and positive research predispositions. However, in the factor of anxiety, the attitudes were moderate. In addition, the public undergraduate students had significantly more positive attitudes towards research than the private undergraduate students. Similarly significant results were found for gender, year of study, and research experience.
