This study aims to improve the ability to think critically in class IV SDN 1 Sukamulya in science subjects through the application of learning strategies jeopardy review. This type of research is a quantitative study using the method research Quasy Experimental Design and the design used is pretest-poststest design. The population in this study were students of class IV (A, B, dan C) SDN 1 Sukamulya Academic year 2019/2020. Totaling 85 students, while the samples in this study were group IVB as the experimental class and class IVC as the control class. The sample was taken using cluster random sampling technique. In this study, the data collection tools used were test, observation, and dokumentation. The instrumen test used was critical thinking essay questions. Hypothesis testing using statistical analysis Independent Sample t-Test. Based on the result of the study obtained the average value of the experimental class 83,00 while the average value of the control class was 76,28. Results hypothesis testing using the analysis of Independent Sample t-Test with a significance level 5% (0,05), i,e. 0,000 < 0,05 so that H0 is rijected and Ha is accepted, so it can be drawn conclusion that there is an influence of the jeopardy review learning strategy on critical thinking skills of grade IV students on material wealth of energy sources in Indonesia at SDN 1 Sukamulya Academic Year 2019/2020. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis kelas IV SDN 1 Sukamulya pada materi IPA dalam tema kayanya negeriku dengan cara menggunakan strategi pembelajaran jeopardy review pada saat proses pembelajjaran berlangsung. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode penelitian Quasy Eksperimental Group Design dan menggunakan desain penelitian yakni Pretest-Posttest Group Design. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas IV (A, B, dan C) SDN 1 Sukamulya Tahun Pelajaran 2019/2020 yang prserta didiknya secara keseluruhan berjumlah 85 peserta didik, sampel pada penelitian ini yakni kela IV B sebagai kelas penelitian dan kelas IV C berperan sebagai kelas kontrol. Sampel ini diambil dengan menggunakan cara cluster random sampling. Pada penelitian ini instrumen yang digunakan yaitu observasi, dan test, serta dokumentasi. Instrument test yang digunakan yakni soal dalam bentuk essay untuk mengukur kemampuan berpikir kritis. Uji hipotesis pada penelitian ini menggunakan analisis data statistik Independent Sample t-Test. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh hasil nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen sebesar 83,00 sedangkan nilai rata-rata kelas kontrol sebesar 76,28. Hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan analisis Independent Sample t-Test dengan menggunakan taraf signifikasi 0,05 (5%), yaitu 0,000 < 0,05 sehingga hasilnya H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh strategi pembelajaran jeopardy review terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik kelas IVB pada materi IPA tema kayanya negeriku di SDN 1 Sukamulya Tahun Pelajaran 2019/2020.

Frequency of statin-induced liver injury: a secondary analysis of previous hospital-based study

Background: Although statins are considered safe, they do have side effects with a wide range of hepatic adverse effects. The present study aims to estimate the frequency of liver injury in patients treated with various statins and to describe their clinical characteristics and outcomes. Materials and Methods: We carried out a secondary post hoc analysis of collected data from our previous study entitled “Frequency of Rhabdomyolysis in Patients Treated with Statins in Hamad General Hospital, Qatar.” Results: We identified 10 cases (1.0%) of statin-induced liver injury during the study period. Their mean age was 62±10.09 years, with 6 (60%) males and 4 (40%) females. Of the 10 patients, six patients received rosuvastatin, two patients received atorvastatin, and other two cases received simvastatin. The mean duration between the initiation of statin and the development of liver injury (latency period) was 20.40±6.91 months. Five of our patients were asymptomatic, and liver injury was discovered incidentally during routine testing of the patients during routine follow-up, while four patients developed painless jaundice and one developed muscle pain attributed to rhabdomyolysis. Statins were stopped in all patients. Nine of them were managed on an outpatient basis, while one patient with rhabdomyolysis was admitted. In all patients, other statins were reintroduced after a mean time of 7.4±3 months without recurrence of liver injury. No mortality has been reported. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that statin-induced liver injury is a rare clinical entity that occurs regardless of the dose and type of statin, with rosuvastatin being the most causative drug. Statin-induced liver injury was asymptomatic and was discovered incidentally in 50% of our cases during routine testing, underscoring the importance of routine follow-up of liver function tests in asymptomatic patients.

The implementation of total quality management (tqm) in the hotel industry

This study sets out to explore the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) necessary for Total Quality Management (TQM) implementation in hotels. It also aims to classify participating hotels into groups based on their TQM adoption by using cluster analysis. A quantitative survey method was applied. Data were collected from a sample of managers from four- and five-star hotels in Jordan, 170 questionnaires were distributed to managers and 104 usable questionnaires were returned. The findings revealed that TQM is existed and implemented in the hotel industry. The researcher then confirmed that four- and five-star hotels can be classified into two groups, namely, “high TQM adopters” and “low TQM adopters”.

Evaluation and comparison of clinical efficacy of ambu auragain with i-gel, in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Background and Aim: Second and third-generation supraglottic airway devices (SADs) are increasingly used in laparoscopic surgeries due to their improved oropharyngeal seal and gastric drainage. This study evaluated and compared the clinical efficacy of the Ambu AuraGain (AAU) and the i-gel in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Materials and Methods: In this prospective, randomized comparative study, 80 adult patients (ASA I and II) were randomly assigned to two groups (n=40 each): Group A (Ambu AuraGain) and Group G (i-gel). The primary objective was to compare oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP). Secondary objectives included insertion time, ease of insertion, success rate, fiberoptic view of the glottis, and postoperative complications. OLP and peak airway pressure (PAP) were measured at various intervals, including during carboperitoneum. Results: The mean OLP was significantly higher in Group A than in Group G, both after insertion (32.9 ± 3.45 vs. 26.53 ± 1.61 cm H2O; p<0.001) and after deflation of carboperitoneum (34.15 ±2.9 vs. 28.2 ±1.71 cm H2O; p<0.001). The margin of safety (OLP–PAP) was significantly higher in the AAU group at all times (p<0.001). However, the i-gel was significantly faster to insert (14.8 ±2.94 vs. 22 ± 3.74 seconds; p<0.001) and easier to place (100% easy vs. 37.5% easy; p<0.001). Fiberoptic alignment was significantly better in the i-gel group, with 70% achieving a Grade 4 view compared to 29% in the AAU group (p<0.001). Postoperative complications were low and comparable between groups. Conclusion: Ambu AuraGain provides a superior oropharyngeal seal and a higher safety margin against leaks during laparoscopic surgery compared to i-gel. Conversely, i-gel is superior in terms of ease of insertion, speed, and anatomical alignment with the glottis, making it a better conduit for fiberoptic-guided intubation. Feasibility and insights into the optimization and characterization of friction welded aluminum–steel dissimilar joints

This research article focuses on addressing the challenges associated with joining dissimilar metals through the application of solid-state welding techniques, specifically Friction Welding (FW). The study aims to develop optimal welding conditions, tools, and parameters for achieving a successful Aluminum–Steel (Al–Fe) butt joint. The resulting weld is extensively characterized through mechanical tests, microstructure analysis, and micro hardness measurements. Additionally, finite element analysis is conducted to simulate the behaviour of the prototype engine valve. The findings provide valuable insights into the feasibility and performance of friction welding for dissimilar metal joints, contributing to the further development and understanding of this welding technique.

Signage and information and communication technology (ict) facilities as correlate to utilisation of information resources in federal universities’ libraries in south-south zone of nigeria

This study was aimed at investigating the extent to which signage and ICT facilities correlate to the utilisation of information resources in federal university libraries in South-South zone of Nigeria. The correlational research design was adopted for the study. Three research questions were answered while three hypotheses were tested. The population of the study comprised 32,190 registered library users for the 2017/2018 academic session and 776 library staff from six federal university libraries in south-south zones of Nigeria. The sample size for the study was 3,219 registered library users and 310 library staff representing 10% and 40% of the population respectively. A two-stage sampling technique of stratified and simple sampling techniques was used to select the sample size. Two Sets of instruments titled; “Signage and Information and Communication Technology Facilities Questionnaire (SICTFQ)” for the students and “Utilization of Information Resources Questionnaire (UIRQ)”were used for data collection. Face and content validity was ensured by three experts. The two instruments yielded reliability coefficients of 0.81 and 0.87 respectively with the use of Cronbach Alpha. Mean was used in answering research questions while Regression was used in testing the null hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. It was found that to a great extent signage relates to the utilisation of information resources while information and communication technology facilities is the vice versa. Based on the findings, it was concluded that jointly, signage and ICT facilities are significant correlate to the utilisation of information resources in federal university libraries in South–South zone of Nigeria. It was therefore recommended among others that library management should improve on the provision of signage by ensuring that well-designed signage suitable for the 21st century is placed at strategic location to guide library users on the utilisation of information resources in federal universities libraries in South-South zone of Nigeria.

Hematological consequences of antiepileptic drug therapy among children with epilepsy

Epilepsy is a chronic neurologic disease that comes third after cerebrovascular and Alzheimer’s disease. Anti-epileptic drugs may affect certain hematological parameters of epileptic patients. Few researches investigated hematological adverse effects of antiepileptic drugs in Libya. Thus, the aim was to evaluate hematological parameters in epileptic children who are on antiepileptic drugs. This retrospective study included 83 pediatric patients with epilepsy recruited from Benghazi Children Hospital, Department of Neurology, from December 2017 to April 2018. Data collected included demographic characteristics, types of epilepsy, anti-epileptic drugs and serum hematological parameters. Hematological parameters recorded included: hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelet, mean cell volume, mean cell hemoglobin, mean cell hemoglobin concentration and white blood cell count. In all treated patients, regardless of the number of antiepileptic drugs therapy used, the average levels of hematological parameters were significantly lower in treated group compared to control group (11.64 gm per dl, 34.53%, 27.74 pg and 33.13 gm per dl, respectively). A significant increase (12.12109 per l) in white blood cell counts in treated group was found. Average hemoglobin, hematocrit and mean cell hemoglobin concentration levels were significantly lower in patients on poly-therapy compared to mono-therapy and control groups. Average white blood cell counts were significantly increased in patients on anti-epileptic drugs. In sodium valproate users, levels of hematological parameters were significantly decreased but significantly increased in white blood cell counts. In diazepam users, significant increases in white blood cells and platelet but no difference in other parameters observed. There were no differences in all hematological parameters among patients using carbamazepine except for platelet counts (significantly decreased). In conclusion, there is substantial effect of the anti-epileptic drugs, especially sodium valproate, on hematological parameters of children despite the effects were not critical as the changes were still in the normal range.

Using microsoft excel in formulating poultry rations by linear programming

Formulation of the least cost rations that provides the nutrient requirements of birds is an important goal in poultry production . The aim of the present study was to create an application in the Excel program for formulation of low-cost poultry diets that provide adequate nutritional requirements using linear programming based on the Solver function of the Excel program and composition of common feed ingredients used in poultry diets (yellow corn, wheat, soybean meal , barley, wheat bran, protein concentrate, limestone, table salt, di-calcium phosphate, vitamins and minerals premix ,and vegetable oil), if their default prices are 500, 450, 750, 350, 250,1750, 250, 100, 500, 4500,and 1500) Iraqi Dinar / kg, respectively. The results showed that the Solver function in - Excel can be used to solve linear programming models such as those used for formulation of least cost poultry rations. This Microsoft Excel application is ready to use and can be used to assist researchers and students in formulating poultry rations that provide the desired nutritional requirements of poultry at the lowest cost. Dunbar syndrome – a narrative review

Dunbar syndrome (DS) is a rare condition, predominantly in females. It arises due to the compression of the celiac trunk and celiac plexus by the fibrous attachments of the median arcuate ligament of the diaphragm. DS mimics many common gastrointestinal disorders due to the postprandial nature of symptoms and is technically a diagnosis of exclusion, confirmed by various imaging modalities. The goal of treatment is decompression of the celiac trunk, and surgery is either the mainstay of therapy, along with adjuvant interventional procedures like percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting. In this review article, we revisit DS to enhance awareness among healthcare providers and discuss this disorder in terms of its historical background, epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management.

Berkaitan dengan pengelolaan Pembelajaran Tematik fakta di sekolah menunjukkan banyak guru belum sepenuhnya mampu mengimplementasikan pembelajaran yang memiliki prinsip mengintegrasikan banyak materi. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan guru: 1) Memahami peserta didik dalam melaksanakan Pembelajaran Tematik di MI Miftahul Hidayah Tegalsari Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019. 2) Merencanakan pembelajaran dalam melaksanakan Pembelajaran Tematik di MI Miftahul Hidayah Tegalsari Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019. 3) Melaksanakan pembelajaran pada Pembelajaran Tematik di MI Miftahul Hidayah Tegalsari Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019. 4) Mengevaluasi hasil belajar dalam melaksanakan Pembelajaran Tematik di MI Miftahul Hidayah Tegalsari Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Kemampuan guru memahami peserta didik sudah sesuai indikator kompetensi pedagogik. 2) Kemampuan guru merencanakan pembelajaran sudah sesuai dengan indikator kompetensi pedagogik. 3) Kemampuan guru dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran ada satu indikator yang perlu diperbaiki. 4) Kemampuan dalam mengevaluasi hasil belajar sudah sesuai dengan indikator kompetensi pedagogik.

The silent scream of skin cells: a brief review of slow electrical signaling in the epithelium

Epithelial cells, lining the skin and internal organs, play a crucial role as protective barriers and regulators of substance transport. Traditionally, these cells were not considered to employ electrical signaling for communication. However, recent investigations have unveiled that epithelial cells generate slow electrical signals, termed the "silent scream," in response to injury, thus challenging conventional views of intercellular communication. A recent experimental investigation provided compelling evidence for this phenomenon, demonstrating the ability of these cells to transmit electrical signals over considerable distances within the epithelium. The research utilized microelectrode array chips to precisely detect subtle electrical events in keratinocytes and Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells, revealing spiking activity characterized by slow propagation speeds, distinct from the rapid action potentials of neurons. The mechanisms underlying this novel signaling are explored, focusing on the involvement of mechanosensitive ion channels, calcium signaling, and Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release. Calcium ions, well-established intracellular messengers, appear to play a central role in this biological phenomenon. Integrating this newly discovered communication mode into the existing understanding of skin cell biology reveals a more intricate picture of how skin senses and responds to its environment. The implications of this finding extend to various facets of skin physiology and pathology, including wound healing, inflammation, and skin aging. In wound healing, where endogenous electric fields guide cell migration and promote repair, this unique type of electrical signaling potentially plays a crucial part. Furthermore, aberrant electrical signaling might contribute to chronic inflammatory conditions, and age-related changes in this signaling could underlie the functional decline observed in aged skin. The potential for other environmental stressors to trigger the epithelial-generated electric signals also warrants investigation. The exploration concludes by discussing potential technological applications, such as bioelectric sensors and enhanced wound healing therapies, and future research directions aimed at further elucidating the molecular mechanisms and functional roles of this non-excitable cell electrophysiology.

Enhancing mechanical characteristics and cost-efficiency of composite materials through hybridization and nanoparticle incorporation

Lightweight materials are increasingly being used in engineering applications today. Composites are replacing traditional metallic materials in a variety of sectors, including aerospace, defence, and aircraft production, where there is a demand for structural materials with high strength-to-weight and stiffness-to-weight ratios. Natural fibre composites are also increasingly used in place of synthetic fibre composites in a variety of technical fields due to their affordability and environmental friendliness. In this particular study, Kevlar (Aramid fibres) is combined with other materials to improve the mechanical characteristics and impact resistance of composites. The only material that costs more than Kevlar is carbon fibres. The goal is to maximize mechanical qualities while utilizing the fewest amounts of pricey Kevlar fibres possible. The hand layup technique was used to create the hybrid composites, which included both natural and Aramid fibres. The performance of various mechanical properties was then assessed. In addition, a morphological examination was done to look at the interior structure of the composite materials that were examined. The results show that the hybrid composite, with or without the addition of nanoparticles, demonstrates great strength with little reliance on Kevlar fibres.

Socio-economic upliftment of the rural poor in gobichettipalayam – a case of successful implementation of mgnrega act

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), with a mandate to provide at least hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every rural household whose members above the age of eighteen years volunteer to do unskilled manual work. The main focus of the act is to facilitate the social protection for the people living in rural India by providing employment opportunities and therefore contributing towards the overall development of the local people. The present study was attempted to figure out the impact of MGNREGA on overall economic and social development of beneficiaries in Gobichettipalayam, Erode district of Tamilnadu.. The results found the MGNREGA has significantly improved their social and economic well-being. The study also has highlighted on the fact that agricultural wages have gone up after the introduction on MGNREGA scheme in the current area.

Footprints of swine influenza h1n1 and h3n2 in pigs from southern kaduna, nigeria

Influenza A virus presents a significant public health burden worldwide, with the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic being the most dramatic example. Swine influenza viruses can be transmitted to humans through occupational exposures and in live pig markets. Novel variants can emerge in pigs because they can be infected by human, avian and swine strains. This study was carried out to determine the seroprevalence and serotypes of swine influenza in pigs from a major slaughter slab in southern Kaduna. Using competitive ELISA and haemagglutination-inhibition (HI) assays, 305 swine sera were analysed. The result showed an overall seroprevalence of 28.20% (n=86), with H3N2 7.87% (n=24) emerging as the most dominant subtype in circulation. Concurrent antibody detection of H1N1 in 5.26% (n=16) was also detected in boar 2.62% (n=8) and sows 2.62% (n=8). This study revealed swine Influenza H1N1 and H3N2 serotypes are in circulation in pigs in Kaduna State, and that reassortment in the instance of co-infection of swine host is possible.

Urolithiasis in gel: an in vitro approach for whewellite growth patterns to evaluate risk factors and management of urinary stones

Whewellite crystals are most commonly found in the kidneys, ureter and urinary bladder, causing urolithiasis. The present in vitro study aimed to observe the possible growth patterns and morphology of whewellite crystals. The study was carried out in U-shaped test tubes. Bow shape, donuts and their aggregates, dumbbell, platy, prismatic, rosette, styloid, X-shape and tetragonal bipyramidal crystals were observed. Energy Dispersive X-ray, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopies and Scanning Electron Microscopy were used to characterize the crystals. This study will be helpful in determining the promotion, modulation, and inhibition of the crystals, as well as evaluating risk factors and prophylactic management of urinary stones.

Methods development and validation for the estimation of pioglitazone hcl in bulk and formulations by uv spectroscopy and ftir

The use of spectroscopic analysis, particularly UV spectrophotometer, is a simple and essential technique for bulk drug estimation, formulation studies, and compatibility assessments of drugs with various excipients. In the pharmaceutical industry, various analytical instruments, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), are employed for investigating drug-excipient interactions that can impact the stability of active pharmaceutical ingredients. This study aimed to develop a UV spectrophotometric method for the analysis of Pioglitazone hydrochloride in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) and methanolic solution, assessing its linearity and compliance with Beer's Law. Furthermore, we aimed to use FTIR to characterize potential interactions between Pioglitazone and common pharmaceutical excipients, such as Guar Gum, Chitosan, and Sodium Alginate. Standard solutions of Pioglitazone were prepared in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) and methanol. UV spectrophotometer was conducted to determine the maximum absorption wavelength. Calibration curves were constructed to evaluate linearity and adherence to Beer's Law. FTIR analyses were performed to investigate drug-excipient interactions by examining the functional groups. In phosphate buffer (pH 7.4), the maximum absorption wavelength for Pioglitazone hydrochloride was 268 nm. The calibration curve for Pioglitazone in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) demonstrated linearity in the concentration range of 1–20 μg/ml, with a correlation coefficient of 0.998. In methanol, the maximum absorption wavelength for Pioglitazone hydrochloride was found to be 272 nm. The calibration curve in methanol exhibited linearity in the range of 1–20 μg/ml, with a correlation coefficient of 0.999. FTIR analysis revealed potential drug-excipient interactions, particularly in the case of Guar Gum, Chitosan, and Sodium Alginate, suggesting the formation of stable hydrogen bonds. The developed UV spectrophotometric method for Pioglitazone analysis is a reliable, cost- effective, and reproducible approach, making it a valuable tool for drug development and quality control. This study aims to identify the relationship between the physicochemical properties and permeation across mouse skin of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in view of their feasibility to transdermal delivery. Biphenylacetic acid, diclofenac base, diclofenac sodium, indomethacin and piroxicam are the drugs studied. Number of physicochemical properties studies were performed. Drug permeation studies across hairless mouse skin were carried out using an in-vitro finite dosing diffusion cell. The relationship between physicochemical properties of the drugs studied and their percutaneous penetration was studied. Purity for the compounds studied ranged from 99.09% to 100% in which 99.89% purity was obtained for diclofenac base. At 7.4, the % ionized of piroxicam was found to be 95.12%, while for other drugs were in the range of 98.01% and 99.96%. The true partition coefficient values in the n-octanol/water system are in the range of 1.85 and 2.85, while in the n-octanol/phosphate system ranged from 2.14 to 3.70. Observed solubility in water, phosphate buffer and n-octanol ranged from 0.033 to 0.322, 0.202 to 0.329 mg per ml, and 2.19 to 16.10 mg per ml, respectively. A linear relationship was found between water solubility and melting point between steady-state rates of permeation across intact and viable skin, between n-octanol solubility and maximum predicted flux and between molecular volume and the ratio of maximum predicted flux. Predicted flux calculated was compared with the experimental data which resulted in a high correlation. Physicochemical criteria which were determined the feasibility of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs studied for transdermal delivery were identified. The relationships obtained in this study provide an essential physical and chemical properties that govern transport of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs across hairless mouse skin.
